Put on your dancing shoes, Ball & Chain is re-opening

WSVN — Sure, if you want nightlife you can flock to South Beach, but we want to put Little Havana back on your radar. In tonight’s Style File, 7’s Belkys Nerey takes us to a place “unchaining” new life on Calle Ocho.

Put on your dancing shoes. Little Havana nights just got steamier now that the historic “Ball and Chain” on Calle Ocho is back to life.

Danny Valdez: “Ball and Chain was a famous jazz club back in the 1930s. Jazz greats from Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong played here.”

Now, decades later, the reincarnated lounge is going back to its roots.

Danny Valdez: “We have live jazz every day from 4 to 10. We always have live music after 11 o’clock. It goes from jazz to Latin to everything in between.”

Steve Roitstein: “You can almost feel the presence here of the old artists that played here decades ago.”

The music may keep you dancing all night, but you’ll definitely want to kick back with one of their Cuban-inspired cocktails. Along with real-deal mojitos, there are some sweet surprises, too.

Danny Valdez: “The Pastelito Daiquiri, in which the rum is infused with actual pastelitos. We serve it with a little pastelito on the side. The Calle Ocho Old Fashioned is another one of our unique drinks. We infuse bitters with tobacco leaves.”

Their eight-item menu features Cuban favorites with a modern twist. Our pick? The Cuban spring roll.

Danny Valdez: “Nice take on a spring roll and a Cuban sandwich of sorts.”

One night not to miss at Ball and Chain? “Viernes Culturales,” or Cultural Fridays. That takes place on Calle Ocho on the last Friday of every month.

Danny Valdez: “This is going to be a great meeting place. You have your drinks, you listen to music, walk around, have some food.”

Steve Roitstein: “They’ve recreated the history of Miami that is so precious and kinda twisted it into something new, too.”

The next Cultural Friday is Oct. 31. Ball and Chain has a huge outdoor patio where bands will also play.
